Fun and Games

Today was an interesting day.  We woke up to no running water in the apartment so we weren't able to take a shower today.  We used hand wipes to get cleaned up as best as we could.

Most of our days are spent waiting around to go to the orphanage.  The first few days we were able to pass the time by cleaning the apartment.  The apartment is clean now so now that gives us one less thing to do.  Today, we played chess on the computer for a few hours to pass the time then we ate lunch.

Before going to the orphanage, we went to the children's services office.  Emily's sister had been located.  Thankfully, she agreed to Emily's adoption and signed off on the document to "break the family."  This could have been a serious problem if she hadn't agreed to the adoption.  After the children's services office, we went to a notary office to get a few documents notarized.  Then, it was off to the orphanage.

Today's orphanage visit was short but very enjoyable.  Today, we spent time alone with our children.  None of the other children came into the room until the very end of the visit when we were about to leave.  In addition to Paul and Holly, there is another family here at the orphanage in Uglegorsk to adopt.  Their names are David and Ingrid.  They are here to adopt a boy named Vanya.  They are also from New York.  David is Holly's brother.

During today's visit, we spent some time teaching some English to Emily.  She is a very quick learner.  We taught her how to write her name in English.  We also taught her how to say numbers in English.  Emily already knew how to say many of the numbers.

Emily found the copies of our passports.  She was very interested in them and asked to see them.  We got out our passports and showed them to her.  This excited Emily very much.  Emily asked if she will need a passport.  We told her yes.  This excited her even more.  Laura had to explain to her that we have to have court first.  Emily understood and said OK.  Our daughter is so eager to come home.  It makes us so happy to know that she can't wait to start her life with us.

Emily spent time playing games on the iPod and computer.  She really enjoys playing Angry Birds and Diner Dash.  Emily mentioned that Rachel and Megan is good at Angry Birds.  She shared the games with us and we took turns playing each level.  She is so sweet and thinks about our feelings all the time.

Emily also spent time taking pictures.  I think she wants to follow in her sisters footsteps.  She went around the room telling everyone to pose and then she would take their picture.  When she is in high school, we will let her take the same photography classes Rachel took.

The time to leave quickly came upon us again.  As we gathered our belongings, all the other children came into the room.  Ola looked at me and smiled as she entered the room.  She is such a sweet little girl.

Emily held our hands and walked us out to our car.  As we said our goodbyes, Emily gave us the tightest hugs of the trip so far.  She hugged us both several times before we got into the van.

Tomorrow will start early.  We have to leave at 8:30am to drive to Donetsk.  We have to go the children's services office to pick up the remaining documents related to "breaking the family."  We are already looking forward to seeing her again tomorrow.

Before going to bed tonight, we are going to try communicating with Rachel and Megan on text free.  We were able to do that last night and it was great to hear from them.  We miss them and can't wait to be home with them and Emily and be a complete family again.
